NOTES TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS

SAC Elections: SAC Executive elections were held this week. We had a very strong slate of candidates who shared their ideas and vision for next year’s council. Next week our grade 10, 11 and 12 reps are being selected. We will share next year’s full council once all its members have been selected.

Senior Drama Show: Congratulations to the cast and crew of our Senior Drama Production class. This week’s one act plays were hysterical. Thanks to our grade 12 class: Kiana, Sophie, Brendan, Olivia, Arabhi, Jasmine, Murali, Madeleine, Aranya, Shakeem, Ayaa, Caterina, Ashley, Rahima, Arschna, Dinan, Laskshmee, Daniella, Bishop, Daniel, Rowena, Alexa, Keshawna, Carlyn, Ahmed, Anysha, Taymor(for his tech support) and Jake for all your hard work.

Graduation Invitations: Students graduating in June may pick up invitations to the graduation ceremony in the Guidance Office. All students must complete and return the RSVP card to the office. The deadline is past due. Those requesting additional guest tickets that are currently on the wait list are asked to listen to the announcements for instructions on pick up.

Post Secondary Pathways:  There are many options open to your son/daughter for their post-secondary decisions.  These include:  work, e-learning, apprenticeship, college and university, each destination has its advantages and a distinct pathway.  To help you plan for your child’s post-secondary success, we will be sharing a series of links and articles with you for your exploration.  Please do not hesitate to contact our guidance staff should you have any questions about the pathways.  At our last staff meeting our staff watched a very eye opening documentary presentation from the television show called “DocZone” that discusses post-secondary education in Canada and abroad. Please click the link below if you would like to view the episode.

On the pathway to Success”:  You are invited to attend and see what our co-op students have accomplished this semester at the co-op career fair on Tuesday May 28th in the library.  The fair will be open from 8:40 am – 11:25 am and from 12:55 pm – 3:30 pm.  Students will be displaying information on their job placements, related career information, and education and training. We will also have a display about SHSM and students will be able to answer questions about this program and the benefits they have derived so far.  The students are looking forward to sharing their learning and work experiences and answering questions about each of the careers profiled.

E-mail Problems:   We have been experiencing some problems with our email system, resulting in blocks and\ or delivery delays for emails sent from our school and teacher accounts to Hotmail and Bell email addresses.  Our Board technology department is working to resolve this issue.  If you have not received recent issues of our E-Newsletter, copies can be found on our school website: https://peths.wordpress.com/.  Any questions regarding your student’s attendance can be directed to the attendance office at extension 190.

Our New Addition: Construction is scheduled to begin soon on our new wing. In anticipation of the increased construction traffic (and now that the weather is getting a little warmer) we encourage students to walk to school as often as they can. Walking is great exercise, a stress reliever and supports our school’s environmental efforts.
