NOTES TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS

Mid-term Marks:  Mid-term Report Cards were sent home with students on Wednesday April 24th and are also included in this e-mail. Please spend a few minutes reviewing your child’s marks, comments and learning skills with them, sign and tear off the last page, and ask them to return it to school to their homeroom teacher by Wednesday May 1.

Trudeau Singers:  The “Trudeau Singers” received a gold rating at the “Music Alive” festival on April 25.  Congratulations to our choir members and their teacher, Ms. Thomas.

Swab to Save:  On April 26th, students participated in the “One Match” DNA collection process.  Students donated a sample of their DNA to the registry, which will be stored in their database for patient searches. “One Match coordinates the collection matching, and delivery of stem cells in Canada and around the world. Our students collected over 125 DNA samples that could potentially save someone’s life.  Congratulations to our team of students and teachers who organized this event.

Grad Awards:  Information is now available on the Moodle for Graduating PETHS Students for students who would like to apply for Graduation Awards.  Students must pay close attention to deadlines and application requirements that are outlined on the moodle.  If they have any questions, students should make an appointment with their Guidance Counsellor.  GOOD LUCK!

E-mail Problems:  We have been experiencing some problems with our email system, resulting in blocks and\ or delivery delays for emails sent from our school and teacher accounts to Hotmail and Bell email addresses.  Our Board technology department is working to resolve this issue.  If you have not received recent issues of our E-Newsletter, copies can be found on our school website: https://peths.wordpress.com/.  Any questions regarding your student’s attendance can be directed to the attendance office at extension 190.

Full Disclosure:  If a student withdraws from a Grade 11 or 12 course prior to five (5) instructional days after the issue of the formal report card then the course will not be recorded on the transcript. If a student withdraws from a course more than five (5) days after the reporting period, a withdrawal (W) is entered in the credit column and the student’s mark at the time of withdrawal is recorded as a percentage in the achievement column of the transcript.

Full disclosure date for the April Mid-term Report is May 1, 2013. In order for course drop requests to be processed before the full disclosure date, students must see a guidance counsellor and have all paperwork completed and returned by April 30, 2013.
If a student repeats a course, each attempt and the mark will be recorded in the transcript with only one credit granted. The course with the lower mark will have an “R” entered in the credit column. Please contact the Guidance Dept if you have any questions

Withdrawals and failures from Grade 9 & 10 courses are not recorded on the Ontario Student Transcript.

Our New Addition: Construction is scheduled to begin soon on our new wing. In anticipation of the increased construction traffic (and now that the weather is getting a little warmer) we encourage students to walk to school as often as they can. Walking is great exercise, a stress reliever and supports our school’s environmental efforts.
