NOTES TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS

Our Students Share their Talents at Cabaret: On Thursday night more than 700 students, staff, families and friends enjoyed an evening of Trudeau’s finest talents with us. More than 125 students (and even a few staff) sang, danced, acted and played 50 different pieces and most have been rehearsing for Cabaret for months. Congratulations on another successful Cabaret Trudeau. We were all thoroughly impressed by their efforts.

Career Fair:  Parents are invited to join the Co-op Department for this years’ Career Fair: Pathways to Success on Tuesday December 11th.  Come see what your son/daughter’s current or future co-op placement is all about.  Find out more about the Business SHSM (Specialist High Skills Major) at Trudeau and the different pathways to post-secondary destinations.  We hope to see you any time between 8:40 and 2:10; please sign in at the office prior to joining us in the Library.

Bullying Prevention MeasuresThe York Region District School Board (YRDSB) has launched a new web reporting tool that allows students, parents and community members to report bullying incidents as well as positive behaviours and events related to our students and learning environments. The online tool, called Report It!, is a web button on the YRSB homepage (www.yrdsb.edu.on.ca) that links to an online form where users report bullying or positive behaviours that are consistent with Character Matters.

The development of this tool is the result of student feedback from an anti-bullying conference held last spring. It is meant for reporting non-emergencies only and deals solely with student issues. Follow-up will be determined by the severity of the incident and may involve sharing information with authorities. Users may submit reports anonymously (although anonymity cannot be absolutely guaranteed).

YRDSB is also asking students, parents, teachers and community members to “Take the Pledge” against bullying. To learn more, click on “The Pledge” image on the YRDSB website or go to www.ctvbarrie.ca

Grad Photos: All week our class of 2013 has been posing for graduation photos in the library. This photo is the one that will be used on the graduating class composite photo and gives them the opportunity for a formal graduation photo that can be purchased and shared with family and friends. Grad photos continue all of next week. The sitting fee is $35. Any student who has not signed up for grad photos should do so in the library.

Professional Programs Presentation for Students and Parents:  On December 11 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., The Guidance Department will be hosting an evening for parents on Professional Programs. A representative from University of Toronto, Scarborough Campus will be making a half hour presentation on professional programs such as medicine, law, teacher education, rehab sciences, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy and nursing to be followed by a question and answer period.  All interested students and parents are welcome to attend.
