NOTES TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS

Final Exams:
Semester 2 Final Exams begin on Wednesday June 19.  All exams begin at 9:00 a.m. Illness and extreme family emergencies are the only valid reasons for missing an exam.  Vacations or employment do not constitute a valid excuse.  If a student is absent for an examination for medical reasons, a doctor’s letter must be provided within 24 hours of the exam. The doctor’s letter must state that “(student name) cannot write the exam on (date) at (time) due to (reason).  Contact the school at (905) 887-2216 and speak to the Principal or one of the Vice Principals if you are aware that you will miss an exam.

Please review the schedule with your son/daughter.  The schedule is also posted on our school website: http://peths.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/june-2013-exams.pdf

School Productions: This week our grade 11 Drama class presented their own modern version of “Romeo and Juliet”.  This was the first time our community has enjoyed an outdoor theatre production.  We didn’t even mind the rain.  Congratulations to the cast and crew for their achievement.

In our Music department, the music theatre class preformed “Legally Blonde” accompanied by our own pit band.  The first performance on Thursday was a crowd pleaser and hilarious.  Congratulations to the cast and crew.  If you have some time this evening, the second show begins at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are available at the door.

YRT Update:  Effective June 3 until December 31, 2013, routes 418 and 68B will follow detours to allow for construction on Warden Ave.  As a result, the buses will not be servicing any stops on Warden Ave. between 16th Ave. and Major Mackenzie Dr.  Please note, during the school year the route 418 bus will continue to run on 16th Ave. to Kennedy Ave. and no service on Warden Ave.

Weekly Attendance Report

Dear Parent/Guardian of «First_Name» «Last_Name»,

Please review the following attendance report. The report includes all lates and absences for the week of Monday, June 10, 2013 to Friday, June 14, 2013.

Want more information about student attendance?

Students and parents can pick up a detailed attendance report from the attendance office. This report lists the dates of each absence and the coding (ill, medical, truant). Please remember to call our attendance office (905) 887-2216 (ext. 190) if your son/daughter is absent.

There is a positive relationship between regular attendance and success in school. Students at P.E. Trudeau H.S. are required to attend regularly, to be punctual, and to participate in all scheduled classes.

All absences from school must be authorized. Authorization must consist of a note or phone call from a parent. During school hours, students are expected to be in class and are not allowed to leave without the teacher’s permission. An automated phone system will inform parents of a student’s absence.

Unauthorized absences will be recorded as truancies. Lates and truancies may result in counselling, contact with parent/guardian, detentions, suspensions, and potential removal from the course.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

«First_Name» «Last_Name» has completed and submitted to the Guidance Office «Community_Servi» hours of community involvement. Students must complete 40 hours of community involvement in order to graduate.

NOTES TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS

Informal Grad Photo:  On Wednesday, our graduating students assembled at the front of the school for the annual “informal grad group photo”.  As is tradition, our 2012-2013 graduates were photographed from the roof of the school.  The photo will be unveiled at the grad tea on June 5.

Trudeau Bands Excel at National Competition:  This week our bands competed in MusicFest Canada.  This competition was “by invitation only” for top high school bands from around the nation, chosen from earlier competitions.  Pierre Elliott Trudeau H.S. was represented by 4 bands, one from each grade.  We are extremely proud to announce that all 4 bands received gold ratings!

Student wins Gold at Photography Competition:  Congratulations to Bowie Fan for winning a gold medal at the Skills Ontario Photography Competition.  Her photography was judged against others from all Ontario high schools.

On the pathway to Success”:  You are invited to attend and see what our co-op students have accomplished this semester at the co-op career fair on Tuesday May 28th in the library.  The fair will be open from 8:40 am – 11:25 am and from 12:55 pm – 3:30 pm.  Students will be displaying information on their job placements, related career information, and education and training. We will also have a display about SHSM and students will be able to answer questions about this program and the benefits they have derived so far.  The students are looking forward to sharing their learning and work experiences and answering questions about each of the careers profiled.
